I have been working on the Link Exchange System converting to a CFC based script. I had to disable the addlink page because of spammers, but the new version will have LylaCaptcha to cut down on all that mess. Hope to have it updated by next weekend and will release to code then.

Ray Camden released a cool website today called ColdFusion Bloggers. Very cool ColdFusion 8 project, I love it. Ray being the nice guy he is released the code for the whole site, so I downloaded it to check it out. Going through the code I found cfsavecontent.

So I had my ColdFusion Advanced training and the book has one page on getters/setters. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this but I think I'm getting it. I'm going to put a test script together tomorrow and see if I can figure it out. I found a post explaining it and hope I can figure it out from that. If anyone has any good resources explaining it let me know.

Every now and then I have to get all the files from a directory that updates quite often. Not wanting to update the static text on the page everytime files are added or removed, I use cfdirectory to make a list then query the list and output the files.

I received an email asking how to use the CF Mini Calendar with none date fields. What does that mean? Well if you have a database that stores dates like so, jul-16-2007 or July 16 2007 in a varchar or other none date field in the db you can easly convert to dates. The way I started using it was something like this Day(blDate) in the query, this pulls just the date from the db. One problem is if I switch from access to sql or mysql it may not work properly.

So 2 weeks ago I went to my advanced ColdFusion training. The school was great and the teacher was good to. I learned alot and I have a better understanding of CFC's. I even learned about ini files and how to use them. I'm still going through the book and working on CFBloggy giving it an update. I am in the process writing my Application.cfc for CFBloggy.
Even before I took the class I wrote the Jedi Name Generator using a CFC, after the class I found a few things wrong and will update here soon and rerelease. I'm going to start bloggin on the Application piece by piece. Not only for other but mainly for myself for future reference.

I'm in training in Charlotte at Lodestone Digital. I must say if anyone is looking for a training facility check these guys out. It's been nothing but a great experience. The teacher is Jacqueline Lum and has had an answer for every question I've had so far. I'll post more later, need to get back to learning!

In my search for understanding of CFC's I created the Star Wars Jedi Name Generator in ColdFusion. Since I have only used CFC's to query databases and have never used them to parse any variables I thought long and hard for a cool yet easy CFC to parse text from a form. In my searching I ran across several Jedi Name Generators in many other languages, but none in Coldfusion. So thank goodness I'm the first, plus I'm posted the code for all to see and use.

So I worked on the project and finished it. Here is the link to test it out, let me know if you find any bugs. I tried to test for everything but may have over looked.

With all the Star Wars talk lately, Ray moving to ColdFusionJedi.com, the Robot Chicken Star Wars show. I figured a I would write a CFC that takes in a few arguments and create a Star Wars name from it. I'll start writing it later today or tomorrow, have a co-worker out so the work load is a little heavy this week.
If ColdFusion has to get pages from
cheap dedicated servers, it may save you good time. After domain name registration, you can have your site's web space allocated. You also need to take care of the html or dynamic pages if you are looking for great
search engine ranking of your web pages. The downlaod time can be enhanced by using cable internet. If all this sounds too complicated then an oracle certification or 642-453 test would be a good option to consider.
